James Gammon's cause of death might be a terrific illness but his legacy as a veteran actor never ends here. He passed away at the age of 70 from a long-time battle with probably adrenaline glands cancer. The man left her surviving family member in the house of his own daughter in Costa Mesa of California. According to a close person from the actor, he's been diagnosed with this health problem for about two-and-a-half years and suddenly came to a point from where his body resistance for a chemotherapy is already weak.
Sad to say, James Gammon is also a legendary actor who starts his career in stage performances, a good indication that he is a true veteran in terms of experiences. He's been with Channel 6 working as a cameraman as well taking his time with some stage plays. According to his bibliography, his appearances in "Cool Hand Luke" made him famous way back in the late 1960's.
